Memory’s Legion: The Complete Expanse Story Collection by James S. A Corey- book review

A must read for any fan of The Expanse. Here is my review of Memory’s Legion by James S. A. Corey- collection of short stories from The Expanse universe.

The Expanse (review here) is one of my favourite series of books- a science fiction saga spanning generations with the most intricate space battles, political and aliens, so I was looking forward to reading Memory’s Legion by James S A Corey. Memory’s Legion is a collection of short stories and novellas fleshing out some of the characters backstories.

I received a copy of this book for a free and unbiased opinion.

The stories are varied in their range which shouldn’t have surprised me given how good the books in The Expanse are.  There are stories that are sad, some optimistic and some downright scary ones too.

The collection covers the origin of The Epstein drive, Amos’s and Fred Johnson’s backstory alluded to in the tv series. There also stories that also tell you a little more about what happened to some of the minor characters such as Filip, Naomi’s son.

As always, the world-building and descriptions of tech are amazing but it is the characters that drive the story.

I particularly enjoyed the author’s note after each story revealing a little more behind the creative process.

Perfect for Fans of

Anyone who is a fan of The Expanse either the books or tv show needs to read Memory’s Legion but the uninitiated reader may struggle with some of the stories.

Leviathan Falls by James S.A , Corey (Final book in the Expanse series) – Book Review

Read my review of Leviathan Falls by James S. A Corey, the final book of The Expanse. I  love the fact we see our heroes grow old but are still brave, adventurous, optimistic, stupid and sexy. And it is this realism that makes this one of the best series I have read.

Series The Expanse ( series review here)

Please note there will be spoilers for the previous books and this one.

History is soaked in blood. The future probably will be too. But for every atrocity, there are a thousand small kindnesses that no one noticed. A hundred people who spent their lives loving and caring for each other. A few moments of real grace.

The Expanse by S.A Corey- Series review

I can’t wait till the last book in The Expanse series by S.A Corey is due to be released in November . This is a series with space battles, political intrigue, alien tech, romance, dystopia, dictators, evil scientists and unique characters like my favourite foul-mouthed politician Chrisjen Avarsala.

Genre: Science fiction

First book: Levithan Rises

Last book :Tiamat’s wrath

I’m embarrassed to say I started reading the books in this series after watching the first few episodes of the TV series.  I can’t believe I walked past these amazing books in bookshops that started me off reading space operas and harder science fiction.

The Expanse is set in the future where our Earth is overpopulated and Mars has been colonised but over the years the tensions between Mars and  Earth have reached a point where war could break out. The belt which lies between Mars and Earth has been established to service the ships travelling between the two planets but the Belters, the people who have adapted over generations to live in space resent Mars and Earth and are ready to revolt.

Amid all this simmering tension,  the Canterbury, an Icehauling ship is attacked setting off a chain of events and thrusts a crewmember, Holden, into the spotlight and into a hero the universe didn’t know it needed.
