Top Ten Tuesday-  My top ten Comfort reads

It’s another Tuesday and another Top Ten Tuesday. This time it’s my favourite comfort reads

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

I have my stack of books I keep on hand when I need a little comfort. So here are my Top comfort reads.

Good Omens By Terry Prachett and Neil Gaiman

Another utterly hilarious book featuring an angel and a demon trying to save the world in the most hapless way possible with best footnotes ever.

Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde

This is the book I wished was true. An evil corporation  wants to highjack a portal that lets people jump into their favourite book and Thursday next has to stop this while dealing with cast of literary characters.

The Lymond Chronicles By Dorothy Dunnett ( series review here)

This isn’t a funny book but I each time I read this I pick up a new nuance and I can always lose myself in Dunnett’s prose .

Any book by P. G Wodehouse

These books are a little old fashioned but they are hilarious- the perfect pick me up

Rivers of London series by Ben  Aaronovitch

Any book in this series is a perfect blend of urban fantasy, humour, action and magic never fails to cheer me up,

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

This book has a dark edge with its description of how people can literally fall through the cracks in society but it’s full of fascinating characters, goodness and an optimistic end.

Bridget Jones’s diary by Helen Fielding

This book got me through my singleton thirties and even though I’m a smug married person I still find this hilarious and turn to this book when I need a laugh.

Red Dwarf by Grant Naylor

I picked this book up in an airport bookshop years ago and I couldn’t help laughing even though it was a particularly difficult time. Based on the TV show, this hilarious book follows the adventures of the last man in the universe, Lister and his friends- an uptight hologram and a cat man.

  1. I want to read Good Omens. I loved the first season of the tv show on Amazon and hope they continue with it. I’m glad to hear the book’s good enough to be considered a comfort read. 🙂

  2. I used to know someone who loved Terry Pratchett books. I’ve not read anything by the author but think I did see a couple adaptations that were pretty dang funny. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland this week!
